Don’t cut corners, NIJ tells students
The Provost, Nigerian Institute of
Journalism, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, has advised students not to engage in
unethical conducts in order to excel in their academic pursuits.
Ogunleye said the institute made
provision for necessary learning materials and equipment, urging the
students to avail themselves of the facilities to succeed.
The provost, who spoke on Wednesday at
the 14th matriculation of newly- admitted students of the institute at
Ogba, Lagos State, congratulated the 304 students and enjoined them to
jealously guide their admission.
He said, “I encourage you to remain true
bona fide students of the institution who will defend the integrity of
the NIJ, and the integrity of your placement in the institution.
“As a dynamic private institution, we
will continue to provide a conducive learning environment and constantly
upgrade our equipment and facilities to meet media standards. Indeed,
we are interested in bringing up the total person who will be worthy in
learning and character.
“I want you to realise that genuine
success can be achieved by dint of hard work. Any attempt to cut corners
to achieve success usually results in disgrace. Be prepared to give it
what it takes to achieve success and you will not regret it.”
Ogunleye assured the students of the institute’s commitment to tutelage, aimed at making them disciplined professionals.
He added that the institution’s members of teaching staff were well trained on various courses slated for the students.
“One of our unique selling points is
that our institution runs an uninterrupted academic calendar. Our
lecturers do not go on strike. The positive implication of this is that
you are sure of graduating at the end of one to three academic sessions
for National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and Postgraduate Diploma
as the case may be,” he added.
