Ambode kick-starts Lagos@50, pledges support for entrepreneurship
The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has commenced the
Lagos@50 celebrations with a movie premiere, ‘Wakaa The Musical’,
assuring youths of the government’s resolve to boost the state economy
through support for entrepreneurship.
He said the government would provide an
enabling environment and make policies that would enhance the success of
business initiatives.
Ambode, who was represented by the
Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, spoke at the premiere on Saturday at
the new Terra Kulture Arena on the Victoria Island.
He said, “On our part, we are determined
and committed to fully explore all the possibilities presented by this
moment to lay a solid foundation for another glorious and prosperous 50
years. This golden jubilee, therefore, presents a unique opportunity for
us not only to celebrate our achievements, but also showcase to the
entire world the immense potential waiting to be tapped in our dear
state.”
He lauded the founder of the Terra
Kulture and Executive Producer of ‘Wakaa The Musical,’ Mrs. Bolanle
Austen-Peters, for the initiative, noting that the actualisation of the
centre was a reward for her selflessness, vision and courage.
Earlier, Austen-Peters said the
premiere, a collection of plays, was a compelling story of the travails
young people went through after graduation in a bid to achieve their
dreams.
“Wakaa celebrates patriotism, honesty,
diligence and the eventual success of excellence over mediocrity, greed
and selfishness,’’ she said.
The Lagos@50 celebrations will feature a
series of activities and end on Saturday May 27, 2017 to commemorate
the creation of Lagos State on May 27, 1967.
