UPDATED: EFCC Vs OGUN SPEAKER: Court Grants Ogun Assembly Speaker N300m Bail

Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Lagos State to the tune of N300 million with two sureties in the same amount.

Justice Daniel Osiagor granted bail on Tuesday, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission having no concerns. 

It was previously reported that the Speaker had been charged with allegedly laundering N2.475 billion.

Rotimi Oyedepo, the attorney for the EFCC had already informed the court that he would leave the decision of bail entirely up to the judge’s discretion.

Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), the Attorney for the Speaker, requested that his client be granted lenient bail conditions by the court.

Justice Osiagor granted the bail to the Speaker but stipulated that one of his sureties could not be below level 16 in the civil service and the other had to own real estate under the court’s jurisdiction.

 

Meanwhile, the second and third defendants were granted bail to the tune of  bail in the amount of N100 million with two sureties likewise.

The court added that one of their sureties must be a level 14 officer in the civil service at the very least. while the other party must likewise own land that is subject to the court’s jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the sureties must sign an affidavit of means and have a three-year tax clearance.

Additionally, each defendant must leave their travel documentation with the court’s registrar.

The defendants will remain in EFCC custody for one week while they wait to fulfill their bail requirements. 

Then, they will be taken to the court’s Abeokuta Division for additional orders regarding their remand.
