The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Akeem Usman and Ifadowo Niyi, for the alleged ritual murder of Quadri Salami, an 18-year-old 100-level student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

Salami’s father had reported him missing on November 14, 2023, after not seeing him since November 8.

According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the breakthrough came after police arrested Usman while he was in possession of Salami’s phone on Wednesday.

Usman accused Niyi of the crime, admitting that they both slaughtered and dismembered Salami for ritual purposes.

Odutola revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamuti Abiodun Mustapha, personally led a team to exhume Salami’s decomposing body parts from a shallow grave in Mile 6 in the Ajemo area of Abeokuta.

The policeman added that Ifadowo reportedly took Salami’s head and two wrists and paid Usman N100,000 as proceeds from the sale of the body parts.

“Ifadowo went away with Quadri’s head and his two wrists and paid the sum of one hundred thousand Naira into AKEEM Usman’s account as proceeds from the sale of the human body parts,” Odutola disclosed.

“The suspects thereafter continued to sell the victim’s other body parts on demand to internet fraudsters and buried the heart, two legs, and flesh inside a plastic rubber for ritual and used the remaining parts for ‘Awure’ a crime against humanity.”

He added that during their confession, the duo admitted to using four other human heads for money rituals known as “Osole.”

The police officer also noted that the suspects are now in the police headquarters in Eleweran at the SCID for the continuation of the discreet investigation and will be prosecuted.

“The CP remain committed to ensuring that justice is served and will continue to investigate further to bring all perpetrators to face the full extent of the law.”
