The Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, has lauded the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, for his efforts in ensuring the availability of rice at subsidized rates to residents. This initiative, aimed at providing relief to households grappling with inflation, comes at a critical time when rising costs of essential goods and commodities continue to put pressure on the average Nigerian.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony of the rice distribution program, held today at the Arcade Ground in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Sokoya highlighted the significance of the program, which is part of a broader strategy by the Federal Government of Nigeria to tackle inflationary pressures. The initiative was launched under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The launch of this subsidized rice program is a much-needed intervention, especially during these challenging economic times,” Sokoya stated. “Governor Dapo Abiodun has shown exemplary leadership by prioritizing the needs of Ogun State residents, ensuring that the government provides direct support to ease the burden of inflation.”

"As inflation continues to affect the purchasing power of citizens, initiatives like this are expected to help alleviate some of the pressure on low-income households, offering them an opportunity to purchase basic food staples at affordable prices", he said.

The AMORAN chairman also emphasized the importance of such collaborative efforts between federal and state governments in addressing the economic realities faced by Nigerians. According to him, programs like this play a key role in cushioning the effects of inflation, which has caused significant hardship for many households.

The rice distribution initiative is part of a wider relief package aimed at reducing the cost of living for ordinary Nigerians. The Federal Government’s initiative, which includes various food aid programs, is expected to have a far-reaching impact, particularly in states like Ogun, where the cost of essential goods has risen sharply in recent months.

At the event, Otunba Sokoya expressed optimism that this program would be the first of many initiatives aimed at providing relief to the people. “We are hopeful that this effort will not only provide immediate relief but also lay the groundwork for more sustainable solutions to food insecurity and inflation.”

The flag-off ceremony was well attended, with hundreds of residents benefiting from the sale of rice at significantly reduced prices. Governor Abiodun, in his address, reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Ogun State remains a top priority in national relief programs and pledged to continue working closely with the Federal Government to support residents during these difficult times.
