Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) and Nestle management in a landmark meeting held on December 9th, 2024, at the Nestle flowergate conference hall, has pledged to strengthen their collaboration to create more opportunities for Sagamu youths.
The meeting, chaired by Nestle’s Human Resources Manager, Mr. Jerry, alongside SYA executives led by Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal popularly known as Ambassador Easy, marked a significant milestone in fostering mutual understanding and addressing key concerns raised by the community.
The SYA delegation at the meeting, championed by its Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Comrade Dare Fasasi, presented a series of requests aimed at enhancing youth engagements. These included:
Increased employment and training opportunities for Sagamu indigenes.
Support for NTTC school placements, NYSC, SIWES industrial training, and youth programs sponsorship.
Fair involvement of community contractors in Nestle projects.
Nestle’s Commitment to CSR and Excellence.
Agitating for Community Liasing Officers, (CLO) in Nestle Flowergate company.
Comrade Jolaoso praised the historical contributions of Sagamu youths that brought a good relationship between the youths and Nestle company, particularly during the construction of the Flowergate Factory, and called for continued collaboration to build on this legacy.
Responding to the SYA’s requests, Mr. Jerry assured the delegation of Nestle’s dedication to supporting the community. He emphasized the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), highlighting plans for further initiatives before February 2025.
While addressing concerns about local contractors and employment, Mr. Jerry clarified that decisions are guided by the company’s stringent safety and quality standards. “Our policies are business-driven, ensuring that we maintain global standards in all operations,” he explained.
The SYA President, Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal (Amb Easy), assured Nestle management of the association’s readiness to work closely with the company. He outlined efforts to improve Sagamu youths’ engagement with job advertisements and reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful environment for Nestle’s operations.
He stated, “We are committed to fostering a productive partnership that not only empowers our youths but also supports Nestle’s growth in Sagamu.”
The meeting concluded with an agreement to improve communication and information management, ensuring Sagamu youths have better access to opportunities at Nestle. Both parties expressed optimism about the long-term benefits of the collaboration, with plans for seamless industrial training, CSR projects, and community sponsorship programs.
The productive dialogues has set the stage for a stronger partnership, addressing pressing issues such as employment, training, and youth program sponsorship. With the promise of actionable outcomes, this collaboration is expected to positively impact the lives of Sagamu youths and the broader community.
