The Sagamu Youth Association (SYA), under the leadership of Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal (Ambassador Easy), has made it clear that the town will no longer tolerate IBEDC's incompetence and disregard for human lives. According to the youth leader, several businesses have shut down due to exorbitant generator costs, students can no longer study at night, and hospital equipment dependent on electricity remains useless, putting patients at risk.

"IBEDC is playing with fire. We gave them 48 hours to act, and instead, they made the situation worse. The government must intervene before this town erupts in protest. Sagamu will not sit back and watch IBEDC destroy lives and businesses in the name of technical excuses!" Comrade Isiaka Lawal stated.

Residents are also questioning why IBEDC continues to issue outrageous bills despite the near-zero electricity supply. Many accuse the company of deliberate extortion, demanding immediate action to rectify the injustice.

Sagamu residents are at their breaking point as the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) continues to plunge the town into prolonged darkness, despite repeated interventions by community leaders, including the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, and the Sagamu Area Commander, ACP Alabi S. Akinjide.

The continue negligences, which has left homes, businesses, and hospitals without power for weeks, has escalated tensions between IBEDC and Sagamu youths, who had previously given the electricity provider a 48-hour ultimatum to restore stable power or face mass action. Instead of improvements, the situation has deteriorated further, raising fears of an impending total blackout.

Following mounting pressure from residents, the Akarigbo and the Sagamu Area Commander convened an emergency meeting with IBEDC’s Sagamu Business Manager, Femi Akinkurolere, who assured the public that steps were being taken to address the issue. However, days after the meeting, the power supply worsened beyond what the newly transferred IBEDC management met upon arrival, exposing the insincerity and negligence of the company.

At the meeting, IBEDC cited aging infrastructure, low gas supply to generating companies, and rampant energy theft as reasons for the poor electricity situation. But these excuses hold no weight for the suffering people of Sagamu, who are now calling IBEDC’s lack of accountability a deliberate act of sabotage against their livelihoods.

With the growing frustration, security experts warn that the continued blackout could lead to mass protests and civil unrest. Many community members are urging Governor Dapo Abiodun and federal representatives to take immediate steps to hold IBEDC accountable before the situation escalates beyond control.

As it stands, the people of Sagamu are sending a final message to IBEDC: Restore power now or face the consequences of your actions!
