The Chairman of Sagamu Peace Agenda Forum announced in a press statement shared with SON, where it was stated that the Forum henceforth disengaged from all activities relating to fraternity or cult within and outside Sagamu environs.
Find the press release below;
Our organization popularly known as Sagamu Peace Agenda Forum do wish to inform the general public that as from today 1st January, 2022, we are disengaging our activities and selves from any involvement on matters that relates to any fraternity or cult group within or outside Sagamu since our several attempts to engage/reorientate them for a meaningful living seem not good enough
While doing this however, we should highlight our past achievements and challenges to serve as a guide to any group of persons that may want to continue where we stopped.
1: It is on record that at inception, we monitored 52 festive season carnivals to ensure peaceful celebrations across Sagamu township and to the glory of God,no record of violence was recorded
2: It is on record that we encouraged the spirit of sportsmanship amongst these boys by Organizing football competitions that had no security operative on ground and yet went peacefully
3: It is on record that we mobiliszed against some hoodlums who wanted to seize the opportunity of the then Endsars movement to loot and also create chaos within Sagamu township. The excesses of the hoodlums were curtailed to the glory of the Lord
4: It is on record that we successfully assisted Ogun State Government in protecting the Covid-19 palliatives that were to be looted at the warehouse of our International Stadium
5: It is on record that we facilitated the arrest of some unrepentant cult boys within Sagamu township
6: It is on record that we successfully mediated on matters that could have resulted to public unrest within Sagamu township
7: It is on record that we organised public lectures to orientate the boys against acts of Cultism, Violence and other Social vices
8: It is on record that we got ourselves committed to Sagamu township traditionally to exhibit our genuine interest for a peaceful Community
9: It is also on good record that we ensured the arrests of some of those boys when they got loose and displayed their MADNESS recently
10: That we organiszed joint patrols with the support of other security operatives in town to curb the excesses of these boys
11: When there seem to be a division amongst Sagamu Youth organisations to the extent that an indigenous Youth was to be revived, we monitored the election that ushered the current leadership of SYA to ensure a peaceful process. We are today glad that though there are two separate associations of the Youths in Sagamu, they are both working together harmoniously in the interest of our beloved Community.
12: It should interest the public to hear that in all these,we expended our personal funds except for the support we got from a very reliable personality of repute,Ahlaji Apelogun(All-rounder) and less I forget Omo'ba Dre& Omo'ba Qudus Bello who are also members of the Organisation. We should be considered as ingrates if we couldn't appreciate the support of Abu Abel&'Peju Ayodele (PJ)who willingly supported us at one time or the other. The security personnel in town were also very supportive to our course hence we were able achieve that little that we did to the glory of God
Challenges
*Residents in town were wary of assisting on giving timely information when required
*The heap of the load of ensuring that we curb the excesses of those were on our Organisation rather than being in collaboration with the Youth organisations, political leaders&other stakeholders
*We were so stigmatised to a large extent despite our traditional/spiritual commitment to the community
*Some external forces relentlessly worked against us without being there to proffer any solution
*To a large extent,we weren't getting the required support
We have assurances that these highlight could be informative to the public and as well serve as a guide to prospective group of people that shares same ideology with our mission
However, in our attempt to keep serving our beloved Community, we should inform the general public that we shall henceforth withdraw to operating as an NGO that we were originally registered for before we chose to focus on curbing acts of Cultism, Violence and other Social vices with a mindset of adhering to a popular Yoruba adage that says"Ile ni a ti ma nkeso rode" since we knew how disturbing and retrogressive any act of violence could cause our community.
While returning all glory to the most High God for His guidance, protection and sense of direction, we equally wish to appreciate our Royal Fathers headed by the Akarigbo/Paramount Ruler of Remo-Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, FCA,LLM,BL, for their indulgence and support.
