The Ologere of Ogere Remo, Oba Oladele Ogunbade died at about 7:50 pm on Sunday April 10, 2022 during a brief illness at the age of 85 years.

Ogunbade, who was installed the Ologere of Ogere on December 3rd, 1983, reigned for 38 years.

He succeeded the redoubtable Oba Babington Ashaye who was a key figure from the Remo zone in the politics of the defunct Western Region.

Scampering back, SON reported earlier that the Ogun State government, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR promulgated the new Law that made it possible for Obas across Ogun State to be buried according to their faith instead of the imposition of rituals by traditionalists in the affected communities.

The law sought opportunity for family members to have a say in the way the body of any monarch would be buried as they so desired.

“The corpse belongs to the family even after traditional burial rites have been done, our customs and traditions cannot be pushed aside. But at the same time, every citizen including an Oba has fundamental human rights granted under Nigeria Constitution and no other law supersedes the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution.

This was what played out during Ologere of Ogere land, Oba Oladele Ogunbade burial ceremony.

SON gathered that everything went well, there was not a single incident, no misunderstanding, no rancour was reported, and there was a great collaboration between the people and traditional institution.

The good and glorious people of Remoland used this opportunity again to mourn the passing away of our dear Father, Ologere of Ogere land.

In accordance with the Obaship Law, the Christian wake keep ceremony was held on Thursday April 21, 2022 and burial/ interment followed at his resident yesterday, Friday 22, 2022 and everything went smoothly.

Even though there was apprehension that there would be chaos, commotion or misunderstanding between the family of the Ologere and traditional institution in Remo but the atmosphere was peaceful all through and after the burial ceremony. Security agencies ably led by the Commissioner of Police, the Director DSS, State Director of Amotekun Corps were fully mobilized and gave adequate security throughout the period.

The people of Remo therefore thank the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Kingdom, Oba Dr Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, and Remo Traditional Council for upholding the new obaship law and ensuring peaceful conduct of Ologere of Ogere burial.
