"I mourn the passage of an accomplished Nigerian of Ijebu, Ogun State extraction, a banker extraordinaire, entrepreneur of no mean order, culture icon, impeccable fashionista, and unparalleled philanthropist, our Baba, Otunba Olasubomi Balogun. The bell tolled for this well loved mentor to many of my generation early on Friday, 19th May 2023. He was aged 89.

"Otunba Olasubomi’s life and times was garlanded and signposted by significant accomplishments. A Commercial lawyer by training, he pioneered the securities sub sector within the financial institutions market when he floated the highly successful City Securities Ltd (CSL), the precursor to First City Merchant Bank, which later metamorphosed to First City Monument Bank. His work and professional career path traversed many other sectors, both in private and public. A hard worker with exceptional nose for business advantages and opportunities, particularly during the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion window, the indigenization era, Otunba Olasubomi left indelible footprints and legacies of excellence everywhere he traversed.

"For Otunba Olasubomi, life was not just about money making albeit God Almighty blessed him with so much. He stayed close to his Royal roots, promoted Culture and supported hundreds of good causes, charities and the work of the Gospel within his Ijebu homestead, Nigeria as a whole and even beyond our shores. His exceptional philanthropic disposition will be sorely missed. In appreciation, well deserved honours and accolades came his way in torrents. He was the Otunba Tunwase, Asiwaju Onigbagbo and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland.

"My condolences go to Olori Abimbola Balogun, the children, family members, the Awujale of Ijebu Land, the entire Ijebu Royal Court and all those left behind to mourn this great loss. I pray that the vibrant soul of Otunba Olasubomi Balogun will find eternal rest at the bosom of his Creator." Amosun stated.
